As a humanistic person-centred counsellor, I trained in this approach and believe the person-centred way of being in life in a holistic capacity. Counselling that values and provides acceptance for a person is an integral part of this theory and offers key core conditions for the therapeutic relationship, such as congruence- being genuine, open, unconditional positive regard, empathic, understanding and non-judgemental.
I believe that everyone has the answer within themselves to resolve situations and problems that they are facing. No matter how difficult it might seem, through exploring the issues together with a shared value and belief, the answers and strength can be found from within yourself. Taking time to understand your true needs is a vital component of this shared experience, as is confidentiality.

A person-centred, humanistic counsellor is a non-directive therapist who views you as the expert on your own life. Rather than offering clinical advice, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to help you explore your thoughts and find your own solutions to personal challenges. This approach rests on the idea that every individual has an innate drive toward growth and fulfilling their potential.
The Core Conditions
CBT helps you to learn more helpful ways of thinking and reacting in everyday situations. Changing how you think and what you do can help you to feel more in control of your life. CBT focuses on your current challenges rather than on your past experiences. It aims to improve your state of mind by teaching you to spot the links between your thoughts, actions and feelings. When doing CBT, we work together to find new ways of dealing with problems and set goals for what you want to change.
What to expect in a session
C stands for ‘cognitive’ (what you think) – In CBT, you learn to notice when you are thinking negatively and work to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts,
B stands for ‘behaviour’ (what you do) – Your behaviour is what you do and how you act. CBT can help you to deal with things you have been avoiding or have fears around. When doing CBT, you might keep a daily diary of activities and set goals to try things that you are afraid of doing. Writing down your goals and actions can give you a sense of achievement and help you to mark your progress.
T stands for ‘therapy’ (what you learn) – Through CBT, you learn new skills that you can then practise as ‘homework’. You can continue to practise these skills after counselling finishes, which can give you the tools to stay well-balanced in the future.
Only you can know if you need therapy, but it won’t work unless you want it. Sometimes those close to us might suggest that we consider it. Many clients view therapy as an investment in their future. Counselling enables you to feel properly listened to and understood, which can be transformative.
Every person is unique with different needs. I tailor my therapy specifically to the individual, and we regularly review your progress. We can continue with therapy sessions until you eventually get to a point where you feel you no longer need help; it is your decision.

Yes, your sessions are confidential. Please note, however, that under certain circumstances I have ethical and statutory obligations to protect the safety of children, others and yourself. In rare cases, this might mean sharing information with other health professionals.
Every client’s journey through therapy is unique, especially with relationship-based approaches such as person-centred therapy. Over time, we will develop a strong and trusting connection, which will allow you to become ever more confident in your capacity to make sense of your difficulties and decide the best way forward. Change can happen very rapidly; it depends on the individual.
Online counselling sessions are a highly effective and convenient way of undergoing therapy if life is too busy or difficult to meet in person at my private practice therapy room. Make sure your privacy is protected and that you will not be disturbed. Find a quiet space you can relax in and check that there is a fast internet connection. I use the secure platform Zoom, and you are sent a link prior to each session to access the virtual therapy room.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07936 988571 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential.
